OVER 200 CHILDREN ENJOY AN AFTERNOON OF BADMINTON AT HATFIELD LEISURE CENTRE
Over 200 year 4 pupils descended on Hatfield Leisure Centre from six local primary schools to improve their badminton skills. The children from Birchwood Avenue, De Havilland, Green Lanes, Howe Dell, Oakview, and St Philip Howard had all had two hours of badminton coaching at their own school or at the Leisure Centre previously and were now enthusiastic to use their new skills.
The children took part in a range of fun activities associated with badminton but the highlight was 20 minutes for each group rallying with two young leaders from Onslow St Audrey’s School. Everyone was very pleased with their standard of play and their good behaviour.
This fun afternoon and the coaching sessions were run by Swifts Junior Badminton Club and Onslow St Audrey’s School. It is hoped that some of the players will continue to play at Swifts JBC on a Friday after school. Each school will also be given a net, shuttles and rackets so that they can continue badminton at school.
Many thanks to Welwyn Hatfield Sport and Physical Activity Alliance for the grant which made this possible.
