U11 County Squad

Squad Facts

I'm Sangeeta Dhall and I am the County Coach for the Under 11 squad.

We train at Hertfordshire Sports Village in Hatfield on a Wednesday evening from 5.30 p.m. until 7.30 p.m.

The group currently consists of 6 boys and 5 girls, and is split into two, one for the Development of children with potential and the other for the squad players who play in the County U11 team.

In the ‘Development’ squad we concentrate on getting the basics right, such as serving, clears, net shots and general movement around the court, whilst the squad players in the other group, work on some of the more advanced skills, such as drives, smashes, drop shots and court awareness. Both groups also take part in a range of fitness and stretching activities and learn the importance of warming up and warming down before and after training.

During the season we arrange friendly matches against other county squads and encourage the children to enter a number of local and national tournaments.

We are fortunate to have the services of some very experienced coaches such as Dick Large and Pat Walker (who also coaches the Under 17 squad), as well as a number of parents who help to keep the paperwork in order and help with the general organisation of the evenings.

Although the main aim of the Under 11 squad is to develop an individual's badminton skills and hopefully produce a few champions of the future, there is also an emphasis on fair play, enjoyment... and fun!

The Squad Members are:

Sai Raj Kondan, Samuel Newlove, Andrew Baird, Austin Eppigrave, Keya Patani, Lia Willis, Aimie Hodgkinson and Sophie Vernon

The Development Squad members are:

Max Titterton, Charlie Hall and Leah Tomlin

Fixtures

We played our first match against Oxfordshire on the 5th October 2008 at HSV; we lost 5-11 but each game was well fought all the scores in double figures. Hopefully we will do better in the next match against Buckinghamshire on the 23rd November 2008.
