U15 County Squad

Under 15's Squad regularly meet on Monday evenings from September till April at St Albans High School for Girls, Townsend Avenue, St Albans. AL1 3SJ. The squad meeting times are from 6.00pm till 8.00pm.

In the squad there are approximately about 28 squad members. These members who are born in 1994 or 1995, and would regularly get good training and get to know how of the game situations. We have two coaches who are in charge of the Squad, one of them is Hitesh Shah (0208 907 7790, e-mail: horizon@hitesh20.freeserve.co.uk) and the other one is John Stobo (01707 332665, e-mail: j.r.stobo@btinternet.com). Both the coaches are qualified with Badminton England Certificates.

Over the course of the year there is a Shires League for the counties. The U-15 plays the regional shire matches and two qualify to the finals of the shires. Hertfordshire also have their own U-15 various tournaments such as singles mixed and doubles.

There also many other tournaments we take part in such Team challenges, Kathy Wood U-14 invitational doubles, Avon doubles, Eastern region U-14, Eastern Region single sex tournaments. These are all county team matches.

Squad Facts

The Squad meets weekly at St Albans High School for Girls from 6-8 pm for fitness agility and technical training. We use feather shuttles and have four courts in main sports hall.

The fees are £135 which covers training from September through till Easter. This also covers the cost of the shuttles and the courts. The squad managers give their time and expertise free.

To be a part of the Hertfordshire squad a player must live in or be at school in Hertfordshire, once selected in the trials you become a Hertfordshire junior county player.

County Trials

These were held in June and we selected 26 squad members and 4 development players.

This year we have Steven George, Daniel Hatt and Mark Sadler who are grade 1 and for grade 2 Conor Bambrick, Nick Barnett, Dale Maddox and Howard Stobo. Congratulations for getting the grades.

All the squad members are expected to play in both the appropriate local HSBA tournaments and National Badminton England tournaments. Successful players in the BE Tournaments gain a National Grading. This determines whether the player is eligible for the Gold, Silver or Bronze tournaments. To find out more visit www.badmintonengland.co.uk.
