About Us
Complementing our ever popular newsletter, the purpose of this website is to provide readily accessible information about the Association and our many current activities.
The content of the site is dynamic, reflecting the ongoing program of matches, tournaments and many other related matters. We recommend that our members place this site on their favourites list to ensure that they are kept up to date with what is happening around the county and beyond.
Our Aims
We share the same principles and targets as BADMINTON England.
To develop badminton as a sport for all and to encourage the best players to progress up through the rankings both at club, county and International level.
Likewise, we strive to achieve targets in equity, elite play, competitive play, coaching, development and membership as embodied in our 'Whole Sport Plan 2005-9' - to be found in PDF format by clicking here.
Through our Badminton Herts Development Committee we work with our partners, Herts Sports Partnership, district Sports Development Officers, School Sports Partnership Development Managers, etc, to progress and maximise the benefits of badminton to all. Further information on the work of our BHDC can be found by clicking here.
WHAT WE DO
We run a series of closed tournaments throughout the season for eligible boys and girls to compete against county and non- county players. All entrants must either reside in Hertfordshire or attend school within the county boundary. These events cover singles, level doubles and mixed doubles for all junior age groups. We also invite Hertfordshire primary schools to an inter-county tournament where teams of players compete against each other for medals and trophies.
Additionally, we host an annual open tournament supported by BADMINTON England which attracts the top junior players from around the country.
Fuller details about these tournaments are available by clicking on the appropriate links.
COUNTY SQUADS
Hertfordshire currently runs weekly squad nights for 4 separate age groups, comprising Development/U11’s, U13’s, U15’s and U17’s. Squad sessions are divided into winter and spring terms as per the school calendar.
Selection to each of the squads is made at our annual trials which traditionally takes place in September. Our experienced squad managers remain exclusively responsible for the selection process. Flexibility is provided to allow best development practice whilst ensuring the smooth running of each squad.
Some of our talented players will alternatively attend training cells run by BADMINTON England.
Although juniors are eligible for selection to senior county matches, all players remain members of the squad appropriate to their date of birth.
THE COMMITTEE
Election of a Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary together with other committee members takes place at the Annual General Meeting in accordance with our Constitution.
